The deal estimates the Mercedes team at £4.6bn – a record for an F1 team – after McLaren were valued at £3.5bn in a change of corporate structure in September. The Austrian executive, who holds one-third of the Mercedes F1 operation, would sell a shareholding approximately five percent. Wolff, aged 53 will remain as team boss and chief executive officer if the sale goes through. Shareholder Breakdown Remaining partners in the team are Mercedes and industrial group Ineos Group, who each also own one-third of the company. An official representative stated: "We will be making no comment on this. The management structure of the team stays unaltered, and each shareholder are dedicated to continued achievements of the brand in F1." Financial Increase This arrangement would represent a substantial rise in worth of Mercedes F1 since Ineos bought its share for £208 million in 2022. The rise demonstrates the expansion in market values of Formula 1 outfits recently due to the growing popularity of Formula 1 globally. This trend was evident with the box-office performance of the Formula 1 film starring Hollywood star Brad Pitt, which was released in summer 2023 and earned more than $630 million (£458 million) at the box office. The film represents the actor's top-grossing film and the most successful sports movie ever released. Current Standings The Mercedes team are runner-up in the team standings, behind McLaren, with three Grands Prix remaining this season. Their lead driver George Russell has won 2 of the 21 grands prix this year and is in fourth place in the drivers' championship behind McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull's Max Verstappen. The team won a record eight consecutive team titles and seven drivers' titles, six won by Lewis Hamilton and one for Nico Rosberg, between 2014 to 2021.
