Leeds United's a player shields the ball from the opposition's Leny Yoro in the top-flight encounter at their home ground. At a Glance Dominic Calvert-Lewin sees a first-half header ricochet off the post. Brenden Aaronson puts the hosts ahead with a low effort in the second half. Matheus Cunha levels only three minutes afterwards. Leeds continue their best top-flight unbeaten run since 2001. The Red Devils' disappointing recent struggles persisted at Elland Road, but manager Ruben Amorim had his Brazilian forward to thank for the team not suffering even more disappointment against their old rivals. Dominic Calvert-Lewin directed a first-half effort against the woodwork for the in-form home team before the American midfielder finished superbly with a low, 62nd-minute shot. At that stage, the United boss was under intense scrutiny after his side had been held by bottom-of-the-table Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford earlier in the week. However, against a team who had less time to recover, the forward restored parity three minutes later when he ran on to a through ball from introduced Joshua Zirkzee and slid a finish underneath advancing Leeds goalkeeper Lucas Perri. It was only the South American's fourth Premier League goal since his high-profile summer move and came at a time when the manager is without four key attacking players due to a mix of injury and national team commitments. Not that you would expect Leeds to sympathise with that given their own lack of preparation time. The Swiss attacker forced a full length save out of Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens with a spectacular overhead kick, and visiting heads were in hands when the Slovenian striker, who is struggling to make an impression, turned Zirkzee's cut-back wide from six yards out. The goalscorer, who had a goal ruled out for offside much earlier in the contest, also blasted against a post in the dying moments. The point extends Leeds' unbeaten run to seven games, their best such streak since over two decades ago, and takes them a significant margin clear of the relegation zone. For the visitors though, it was yet another chance to move into fourth spot, albeit only for a short time, wasted. Manchester United Breakdown: Amorim's Side Misfire Again With the AFCON reaching its latter stages, Amorim could be forgiven for hoping the involved countries make a pretty quick exit. Current injuries to skipper Bruno Fernandes and England international Mason Mount only heightened the impact the absence of other attackers is having on Amorim's options. It's not that the absent players are the solution to all of the club's problems. After all, they were part of the side that suffered poor results earlier in the campaign. But without them, the boss has few alternatives in attack. He clearly does not have full faith in teenager Shea Lacey or the much more experienced Zirkzee, even though the Netherlands forward provided the assist for Cunha's equaliser almost instantly after his introduction as a substitute. That leaves the Brazilian, who has now scored a small tally in recent outings, and others operating out of their preferred positions, alongside Benjamin Sesko. On this showing, the big-money frontman looks similar to previous struggling signings, lacking in confidence and conviction in front of goal. Sesko's failure to turn home the cross means it is now a long run without a goal for the new signing. Leeds Analysis: Another Step Towards Safety After memorable victories in their previous home games, the arrival of their biggest rivals to home was a bit drab affair. True, there were instances of expected fervor, but the hostile edge was not as evident as in previous fixtures. The home fans were more preoccupied about their side's struggle to get worthwhile possession in dangerous areas for any length of time. The striker's header that clipped the post was an rare moment of quality in a tight first half. It still felt as though the hosts were finding it tough when a mistake opened the door for Aaronson. Ever so briefly, The home ecstatic fans thought they were about to secure a rare win against Manchester United. However, there is a much bigger picture for Daniel Farke and Leeds to deal with. When they suffered a difficult run of form earlier in the season, many speculated about the manager's position. In contrast, he is now overseeing clear progress. The job is not done yet but step by step, Leeds are getting closer to securing their survival. Looking Ahead Leeds have a Premier League trip to Newcastle in midweek, followed by the start of their FA Cup campaign next weekend. Manchester United face a league trip to Turf Moor before also beginning their FA Cup journey with a home tie.
